The EAP definition emphasizes the unique bond formed between humans and horses, which aids in developing trust, communication, and self-awareness.
What IS Equine Assisted Therapy?
Equine Assisted Therapy or Psychotherapy (EAP) Is a specialized form of therapy that incorporates horses as dynamic tools in mental health treatment. Unlike traditional therapy, EAP encourages non-verbal communication, problem-solving, and self-discovery through interaction with horses. There is no riding involved in most forms of equine assisted psychotherapy, although it is sometimes incorporated into the therapy sessions.

Mental health professionals and equine specialists work collaboratively to guide clients in these experiential learning sessions. This approach uses horse interactions to teach important life skills like leadership and teamwork, valuable in education and personal development. Both mental health professionals and horse specialists are specially trained to guide these sessions. They create a safe environment for people to connect with horses and work through their emotions.
